Participation in one of Europe’s largest research projects
The brightest X-ray source in the world – with undulators by VACUUMSCHMELZE 
Hanau – VACUUMSCHMELZE GmbH & Co. KG (VAC) is supplying magnets and pole pieces for the undulators in a new research facility that features an array of superlatives. The European XFEL (X-Ray Free Electron Laser), currently under construction in Hamburg, will extend over 3.4 kilometres. After completion, the scientific facility will generate the brightest X-ray pulses in the world. These pulses will be produced by undulators – arrangements comprising two opposite structures on which long rows of magnets are mounted with alternating poles. This is where VAC’s advanced materials come into play. VAC’s magnet systems, comprising VACODYM® magnets and VACOFLUX® poles, are part of the first 35 undulators.

Zero to 100 in 1.513 seconds:
VACUUMSCHMELZE’s motor optimisation drives “grimsel”’s new world record
Hanau – A mere 0.266 seconds was all it took for the Formula Student team from the Academic Motorsports Club Zurich (AMZ) to shatter the official world record for the acceleration of an electric vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h. “grimsel”, the electric racing car with VACUUMSCHMELZE GmbH & Co. KG (VAC) as a premium sponsor, achieved the necessary acceleration in only 1.513 seconds, comfortably beating the former world record of 1.779 seconds. No mass-produced car in the world can hope to compete with this level of acceleration.

Solar Impulse 2 lands in Seville:
Solar aircraft completes an Atlantic crossing safely with the help of advanced materials from VACUUMSCHMELZE
Hanau – Bertrand Piccard has successfully completed a non-stop flight across the Atlantic in his aircraft Solar Impulse 2, powered entirely by solar energy. The pilot landed Solar Impulse 2 safely in Seville, Spain, on 23rd June at 7:28 a.m. local time.  The achievement places Piccard as a worthy successor to Charles Lindbergh, the first pilot to complete a solo trans-Atlantic flight in 1927. The pioneering project by the “modern Lindbergh” was made possible by a number of contributions, including advanced materials manufactured by VACUUMSCHMELZE GmbH & Co.  KG (VAC). The electric motors of Solar Impulse 2 use the soft magnetic alloy ULTRAVAC® 44 V6 and permanent magnets made of VACODYM® 655 HR.

Award-winning and proven products:
VACUUMSCHMELZE presents its expertise in sensors at the PCIM Nuremberg trade show
Hanau – At this year’s PCIM in Nuremberg, VACUUMSCHMELZE GmbH &  o. KG (VAC) will again present its portfolio of current sensors at Stand 123 in Hall 7. At the trade show from 10 to 12 May, VAC will display products including current sensors for chassis mounting with a new ASIC for up to 700 A and EMC-optimised sensors. The stand will also include wellknown products, such as the AC-DC-sensitive differential current sensor module for residual current monitoring at charging stations and the accompanying charging cables.

PCIM 2016 in Nuremberg:
VACUUMSCHMELZE presents a broad-based portfolio of components made from nanocrystalline VITROPERM
Hanau / Frankfurt – The Cores and Components division of VACUUMSCHMELZE GmbH & Co. KG (Hanau) will again attend PCIM in Nuremberg this year. From 10 to 12 May, this year at the new stand number 123 in Hall 7, VAC will focus its product presentations on transformers, cut cores and chokes using the nanocrystalline material VITROPERM®. In addition, the company will present kW power transformers and cut cores for modern rail applications, gate drive transformers for IGBTs, and  common mode chokes for EMC filters.

Award for outstanding development
VACUUMSCHMELZE’s new differential current sensor receives the Bavarian State Award for Electric and Hybrid Mobility
Hanau – At the 2015 eCarTec show, VACUUMSCHMELZE (VAC) was presented with the Bavarian State Award for Electric and Hybrid Mobility in the “Energy Storage & Infrastructure” category. The Munich event is the world’s largest international trade show for electric mobility. The new type of differential current sensor, developed by VAC in partnership with Bender GmbH & Co. KG, successfully beat off strong international competition to bring the award to VAC’s home state of Hesse.

Completely redesigned product series:
VACUUMSCHMELZE presents compact isolation transformers for modern narrowband PLC applications
Hanau – Hanau-based VACUUMSCHMELZE GmbH & Co. KG has completely redesigned its series of PLC transformers for smart metering. The new transformers are marketed as “isolation transformers for narrowband PLC applications”, to reflect their growing range of potential uses and highlight their wide range of application possibilities, e.g. as signal transmitters for controlling and monitoring household appliances and as data transmitters for the remote reading of smart meters. The transmitters in the new series are based on VITROVAC® and VITROPERM®; these advanced materials, developed in-house by VAC, feature outstanding trans-mission characteristics, high resistance to EMC interference and safe galvanic insulation.
