VACUUMSCHMELZE presents Core Sample Kit of tape wound VITROPERM® cores for EMC applications
Hanau / Frankfurt – VACUUMSCHMELZE GmbH & Co. KG (Hanau) now presents an updated version of its Core sample Kit, a selection of standard nanocrystalline VITROPERM toroidal tape-wound cores for EMC applications. The practical plastic case contains a selection of 55 cores in various types and sizes up to 45 mm. The Core Sample Kit is ideal for filter development in switched-mode power supplies, uninterrupted power supplies, welding systems, frequency converters, solar inverters, etc. With this core range, common mode chokes with operating currents up to approx. 80 A can be designed. Containing cores with graduated permeability ranges from µ 18,000 to over µ 100,000, the kit provides the maximum scope for laboratory experimentation and EMC developers. The new kit is available from VAC distributors now.

VACUUMSCHMELZE presents its new corrosion protection coating VACCOAT 30033
Hanau / Frankfurt – VACUUMSCHMELZE GmbH & Co. KG (Hanau) presents VACCOAT® 30033, the advanced successor to VACCOAT® 20011, its adhesive coating and corrosion protection finish. This new green-coloured heat-cured finish provides enhanced protection for VAC permanent rare-earth magnets, particularly under extreme conditions. The protective coating can be used at temperatures up to 200 °C in continuous operation and can withstand peak temperatures of up to 250 °C for periods of several hours. In addition, the new spray coating provides more effective corrosion protection than its predecessor. VACCOAT 30033 is particularly suitable for salt-water environments and automotive engine and motor applications.

VACUUMSCHMELZE presents DURACON 45M alloy at Euromold in Frankfurt
Hanau / Frankfurt – VACUUMSCHMELZE GmbH & Co. KG (Hanau) will exhibit at Euromold in Frankfurt for the second time in 2011. The world's leading trade show for mould making and tooling design and development will be held from 29 November to 2 December. VAC will present its new alloy DURACON® 45M, which offers a unique set of properties making it ideal for many plastic injection-moulding applications. VAC, a member of the Association of German Tool and Mould Makers (VDWF) since 2009, will be amongst the exhibitors at the VDWF group stand (11.0 D06).

VACUUMSCHMELZE announces a new EMC Sample Kit of nanocrystalline Common Mode Chokes
Hanau / Frankfurt – The new edition of the proven CMC Sample Kit from VACUUMSCHMELZE GmbH & Co. KG (Hanau) is available again. The kit contains a selection of nanocrystalline common mode chokes from the new range, in designs that conform to UL standards (using suitable plastics compliant with the UL-1446 standard for insulation materials). The kit includes an assortment of two winding common-mode chokes for single-phase applications in flat and upright designs as well as a number of three- and four winding chokes for three-phase applications. The chokes are designed for operating currents ranging from 4 to 48 A and for operating voltages from 300 to 1000 V. The kit is now available from VAC distributors.

CLEVELAND – August 2, 2011 – OM Group, Inc. (NYSE: OMG) today announced that it has completed its previously announced acquisition of Vacuumschmelze GmbH & Co. KG (VAC) of Hanau, Germany, a global market leader in advanced materials and specialty magnetics, for approximately €700 million, including $50 million in common stock. The company announced its intent to acquire VAC on July 5, 2011.

Collection of high-precision current sensors by VACUUMSCHMELZE in a new Sample Kit
Hanau / Frankfurt – VACUUMSCHMELZE GmbH & Co. KG (Hanau) now offers a new Sample Kit comprising a broad selection of their most widely used high-precision current sensors for accurate measurement of DC and AC current. The convenient and easily portable case contains current sen-sors with integrated electronics for both PCB through-hole and panel mounting arrangements. Samples with current ratings from 2 A to over 700 A RMS (1200 A peak) are included. The company's sensors are based on its patented closed-loop system using magnetic probes as zero field detectors to deliver outstandingly precise current measurements with excellent temperature stability and minimal drift. VAC current sensors are capable of recording both instantaneous and continuous currents and are extremely compact.

Hanau / Frankfurt – Advanced materials produced by VAC are out in space.
A group of students at the university Scuola universitaria professionale della Svizzera italiana (SUPSI) asked the Hanau-based company for assistance in the construction of a small cubiform satellite called TIsat-1. The satellite has a mass of one kilogram and an edge length of ten centimetres. The Swiss students are taking part in an international university program called CubeSat. VAC supplied rods of PERMENORM® 5000 H2 in various diameters, used for magnetic oscillation control, and permanent magnets made of VACODYM®, which enable the earth's magnetic field to be used as orientation for the satellite. This assistance gained VAC the status of official sponsor of the project.
TIsat-1 saw lift-off on 12 July last year at Sriharikota Space Center in India, when the satellite was launched into space from the PSLV-C15 rocket. It has transmitted signals back to the earth ever since.

Advanced materials for high-performance electric motors:
VACUUMSCHMELZE presents high-performance permanent magnet motors at Coil Winding
Hanau / Frankfurt – VACUUMSCHMELZE GmbH & Co. KG (Hanau) will take advantage of this year's Coil Winding in Berlin to present the results of a study conducted jointly with Swiss company drivetek ag. During the exhibition from 24 to 26 May, VAC can be found at stand Number 4512, Hall 2.1. New developments presented by the Hanau-based company will include a motor with cobalt-iron lamination stacks featuring an optimised design using VAC materials to deliver 27 per cent higher torque. More detailed information on the motor and the study will be provided by Dr. Pieper on 25 May in a talk at the Inductica 2011 conference entitled "Optimization of a High Performance Permanent Magnet Machine using Iron-Cobalt Soft Magnetic Material". VAC's stand at the Berlin exhibition will also focus on further products from the Materials and Parts division such as rotor and stator assemblies designed for high-performance electric motors and made from cobalt-iron alloys VACOFLUX® and VACODUR®. These soft magnetic materials were developed specifically for use in high-efficiency electric motors and generators with low power dissipation, such as those used in the aerospace, motor sports and automation industries.

KG (Hanau) was entered for the iF awards of the International Forum Design in Hanover for the first time in 2009 – and promptly won one of the coveted awards in the ‘material’ category. The materials submitted are evaluated on the basis of their innovation, the environmental impact of their manufacture and use and their potential for development. The VAC entry was the contact spring alloy DURACON® 17A, which features extreme hardness, minimum bending radii, high temperature operation and outstanding relaxation behaviour without subsequent age-hardening.

At Booth A40 in Hall 17, the Hanau-based company will present a selection of alloy materials that are anything but "off the shelf". VAC aligns the materials it produces to the needs of its customers, optimizing technological and price/performance aspects and supplying the finished products to the precise dimensions required.
