The character of an inductor is determined by the shape of the hysteresis loop that is formed in the magnetic reversal process. It is described by the change of Induction B with which the magnet material reacts to changes in the driving Field H.
In an inductor, H is generally determined by the current impressed in a winding (H ~ N·I). The induction flux density B then works on the parameters of the components in accordance with the Law of Induction U~ ∂B/∂t , such as the output voltage in a transformer or the impedance (internal resistance) in a choke.
The parameters of a hysteresis loop are:
The type and the course of the magnetic reversal process is decisively determined by the direction and amount of magnetic anisotropies as well as by the magnetic reversal speed.
