MAGNETIC AMPLIFIER CHOKES (MAGAMPs)

Magnetic Amplifiers (MagAmps) made of amorphous and nanocrystalline tape-wound cores are worldwide well established for precise output voltage regulation in PC- and Server Switched Mode Power Supplies, as well as Telecom and Industrial Power Supplies.

The MagAmp Chokes from VAC are ideally suited to control high output currents - both for low and for high output voltages. The standard range contains upright versions up to nominal currents of 20 A. Moreover, customer-specific versions are possible at any time.

Continuous improvements of our amorphous und nanocrystalline core materials allow us to offer two ideally adapted standard core series for use in MagAmp Chokes: Amorphous Cores made of VITROVAC 6025 Z and nanocrystalline VITROPERM 500 Z feature a highly squarehysteresis loop, lowest coercivity and lowest losses. The core material VITROPERM can be used up to an upper limit temperature of 120 °C.

All of these properties result in numerous advantages in application:

  • very good dynamic switching and very accurate regulation properties
  • small reset currents
  • low heat-up
  • very high efficiency
