DESIGN SKILLS FOR COMMON MODE CHOKES, FURTHER INFORMATION

Application advantages when using the core materials VITROPERM® 500 F:

  • High attenuation
  • Minimum component volume

Thanks to the broadband attenuation and the excellent properties in the low-frequency and the high-frequency range, the following is possible with VAC's nanocrystalline core material VITROPERM:

  • to achieve a much higher attenuation in the entire frequency range at the same constructional size than a Common Mode Choke with a typical ferrite core (picture above).
  • to realise an attenuation in a much smaller component volume which is superior to the attenuation of a Common Mode Choke with a typical ferrite core in the low-frequency and high-frequency range. The attenuation at medium frequencies is roughly at the same level (picture below).

VITROPERM 500 F is particularly suitable at high application temperatures:
In the temperature range between -40 °C and +160 °C the attenuation of a Common Mode Choke with a nanocrystalline core does not change noticeable, whereas the properties of ferrite chokes vary greatly both at low and at high temperatures.

In the picture above a VITROPERM choke is compared with a 10 A current compensated choke with a ferrite core that can be used at up to around 100 °C (Curie temperature 130 °C).

In the picture below, a VITROPERM choke is compared with a ferrite choke where the core material can be used at up to around 120 °C (Curie temperature 150 °C).
